Server -based Anti-Malware

By brian ·
Our network consists of about 20 servers and 50 remote offices. We recently installed Symantec Endpoint Protection. However, the anti-malware portion of the software brings any computer with less that 2GB of RAM to its knees.

The AV portion seems to work well but now we need an anti-malware solution. Is there anything that is more server based rather than client/server based? Or something with an agent that is a little less demanding?

All of our systems go through our main data center and ISA server as does all of our internet connectivity as we are a healthcare firm. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Same ol' Symantec

For me, Endpoint was a disaster on several different installs. This was my last straw with Symantec. Symentec Corp. editions 7-9 were solid and I have had minimal issues. But Endpoint really messed things up. Again, my experience, others may differ.

That aside Are users experiencing issues with Malware? There are other programs: AVG, Avast, McAfee, etc..all with client/server conditions. Personally I have been deploying AVG recently and I love it. However the effectiveness of all anti-malware/anti-spyware programs is suspect. In addition, we are using SonicWall firewall devices with anti-virus and anti-spyware scaning. They seem to work well, at least the syslogs show that is is working. This of course is all in addition to managing your group policies, securing user permissions and setting guidelines on internet usage. (I'm sure your also using ISA for restricting websites.)

OR, look into something like Kaseya. Very lightweight agent for computers. Does a ton of great things, including anti-virus.

There's stuff out there to try, just a pain that Endpoint is not simply working. BTW, you contacted Symantec support?
