Site outage scheduled for today 8/9/07 at 5:30 pm EST

By Beth Blakely ·
TR will be down for approximately 30 minutes today beginning at 5:30 pm EST.

Here's a short list of things you can do while we're down:

1. Clean out your keyboard
2. Clean your mouse
3. Create fun lists to post on TR
4. Think up bizarre complaints that will drive BB out of her mind
5. Try to out geek The Geek
6. Try to out gadget sMoRTy71

You've done it to me again!

by neilb@uk In reply to Site outage scheduled for ...

By the time I've worked out what 5:30 EST actually is in real time, it's too bloody late.

Can I point out (again) that we (Brits) invented time - the closest that the Spanish ever got was "Ma?ana" and the closest the French ever got was defining "lunchtime" - and that's why we ruled the world for a while and why the Universal Time is based on Greenwich which is about ten miles North East of me and the closest that the Prime Meridian (and the Eastern Hemisphere) gets is West Wickham, just over three miles away.

So, let's have the time of your next scheduled outage in GMT - OK, UTC if you can't get over your resentment for 1776 - please, so that I don't get confused. The unscheduled ones you can have whenever you like - you do that anyway.

Thank you.

:^0 Yes they do Neil ...

did find a nice site on wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone
is more general, the specific one nice with time schedule:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Time_Zone

to make it more complicated:

Eastern Standard Time - three separate time zones use this name:
the Australian time zone at UTC+10
the Brazilian Eastern time zone at UTC-3
the North American time zone at UTC-5

European Summer Time - the daylight-saving time used in Europe.
:^0

Well where is the yuk or is it started by Beth today ... that is a nice one for a change

Thank you Rob!

I was pretty sure that they were using the North American time zone and they had just assumed that the rest of the world would understand which one they meant!

Bloody Yanks

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Well, duh

They really think that the world revolve around them don't they.

Actually there is an entire world out there that doesn't even think of the Yanks unless one is pestering them and most of us live in that world.

Clock feature in my cell phone

by jdclyde In reply to You've done it to me agai ...

allows me to set a few time zones. GB is one of the places set, so it lets me know if I need to pester one of "you people" over there, I have to do it before lunch! B-)

You are so right, Neil

I need to post the time differently. I just wanted to get the notification up there quickly.

I swear, next time I'll try to put GMT. :-)

UTC will do :)

by neilb@uk In reply to You are so right, Neil

and I'll do the calculation from UTC to GMT myself. I believe it involves me walking West for about twenty yards.

Anyway, I don't want people from other time zones claiming favouritism!
