Slow Network Performance

Hi all,

Have a slow network problem and would really appreciate your input.

Background info:
Master Domain/ Resource Domain
Resource Domain has one subnet with one BDC, which is also, a File Server (Running NT 4.0), using 100baseT Ethernet cabling. BDC (Compaq Proliant 6500: 256mb ram, dual 450Mhz CPU, 40G hdd, available 2G)
The number of users (175) and data on the File Server has not changed much.
This setup has been working fine for the last one year, this problem came up about two weeks ago (and there was no changes made to the network).


Ran Performance Monitor and the only thing that looked interesting was the Object " Network Interface " with Counter "Current Bandwidth" which is 100% utilized. Here's the interesting point, even when the bandwidth is 100% sometime the users network performance is normal (access time to retrieve data from the server) and other times it's slow. About half of the users are accessing the Access Database (size: 800mb) from the server.Even FTP files are t

Try running TCP/IP only as your network protocol. Broadcast traffic is considerably reduced with the use of TCP/IP.
