Small Network

By Siercks ·
I have a small network of three (3) computers. All computers are configured the same way, peer to peer. I am using a router for my cable modem and then a hub for all system to come together. The main question is: I can see the other 2 computers but they can not see me on the network. I have enabled file and print sharing, reinstalled the nic, removed and reinstalled the services and still I cant be seen on the network by the other two computers. What else can I try ?

I would suggest pinging computer A from both B and C. If you can ping it successfully, I would suggest trying to use Start then Find Computer and search based on the name shown on the Identification tab of the network control panel. If you can seeit, the problem is the previously mentioned erratic Network Neighborhood. If the ping doesn't work, I would double check the ip addresses and subnet masks.

I suspect that you have Computer A plugged into your uplink port on your hub. Make sure your cable modem is plugged into uplink port and all 3 computers are in the standard ports.

Try installing the NETBEUI protocol on ALL 3 machines.
They will definitely be able to see each other in Network Neighbourhood with Netbeui installed.

(if using IP) if they can't access each other...also make sure ..that the subnet mask and IP addresses are correctly entered for each machine.

Check to see that your workgroup name is the same as the other two.

This may seem really basic, but did you set-up shares on Computer "A" that can't be seen by the other two? You must share your drives/folders after enabling file and printer sharing.
