Something I thought I'd never see on TR. Beware!!!!

By sleepin'dawg ·
This showed up in my e-mail @ 23:30hrs Mar.04,2005. Why I was chosen to receive this is a mystery but I put it in the same category as the phony Nigerian e-mails seeking much the same type of information. Beware; there are con-artists everywhere. Just because they've shown up on TR doesn't give them any legitemacy. There is no such a thing as a free lunch. If it seems too good to be true; it probably is. Note: this came at me under the guise of a peer message. Even TR isn't safe from this crap.

Dear Friend,

Since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy here to locate any of my clients extended relatives, this has also proved unsuccessful.

After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to look for any body who will be willing to assist me in recovering the fund valued at US12.5 million

The said finance house has issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the deposited consignment confisicated within the next twenty one official working days.Since I have been unsuccesfull in locating the relatives for over 2 years now, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin to the deceased hence I have all the legal document to back you up for the claim, so that the proceeds of this consignment can be released to you.

Therefore, on receipt of your positive response, we shall then
discuss on how we can sharing the funds when it gets to your

I appreciate the enlightening reply. I had no idea, having just started my IT career...30 years ago.

Flame away. And suffer the consequences.

Let's see now; 1 year times 30= yup, as you say 30 years experience.......

by sleepin'dawg In reply to Thank you

in IT. That's truly impressive. I'm overwhelmed by the depths of your knowledge and perspicacity to determine phishing attacks from old time con jobs however do you really think I replied directly??? Tch,tch.......Not bloody likely and if you really have 30 years experience you'll know precisely what I did. Oh yeah, just in passing, the first computer I sat down in front of was an IBM RAMAC507, most of which were replaced as being obsolete by 1963.....4 years after I started but what the **** you've really impressed me and I'm sure, all the others who have many years in IT. I don't profess to know everything there is to know about IT it's truly comforting to me in my dotage to discover that there are people who do know it all. :^O

Perhaps he could give me some lessons as well as I'm still learning something new on an almost daily basis and I'm considered as the resident Dinosaur here.

God to be young again and know it all only to grow older and find out just how little you actually did know.

Col & Jaqui; They say......

by sleepin'dawg In reply to Yea Dawg

we pass through wisdom to enenlightenment when we realize that what we know is not so important as the awareness of all the things we still have to learn. I can see you guys are somewhat like me, still curious; still learning. You've got to admit that some days it might be a bit dull but all in all it's been one **** of a trip and I don't regret a moment of it. As for me, there are still miles to go before this dawg sleeps.

Hey Col, I'll bet you're the resident T-Rex. :^O

Information sponges

by Oz_Media In reply to Yea Dawg

I think some people are just information sponges. We like to soak up every single little detail we can about literally anything that happens to interest us at any given time. That information NEED may differ in many extremes but it is always the satisfaction of learning something new.

I figure with every cigarrette I smoke, I must then soak up some more interesting 'stuff' just to make up for the lost time at the end of my life, there's just not enough time to learn EVERYTHING , dammit!

Whenever I talk to my son I always ask :So what's new?" He has learned not to say "nuttin'" and actually THINK about what's new.

It started when he was in school and I asked what he did each day. "Nuttin'" was not accepted. You learn something every day, WHAT WAS IT TODAY? Whether it is an academic skill, a social skill and athletic skill or perhaps even just a realization due to pondering a few issues, there is ALWAYS something as we are not, try not to be, should not be...drones.

So I find he has also become someone who wants to just experience and learn everything he possibly can now, he's a regular 'drip off the old sponge' if that can be considered a compliment?!? :)

From TR or spoofed?

by deepsand In reply to Something I thought I'd n ...

Either way, TR needs to be notified.

If it's not spoofed, they can shut it down.

If it is spoofed, it is probably being mass mailed to non-TR members. In that case there is the danger that, given sufficient complaints, TR could be black-holed!

Forward a copy, as an attachment, so as to preserve the full header, to TR.
