Sound Card Problem

By karthik_ramadas ·
I have a Compaq Presario 4220 PC with a Crystal Semiconductor Sound card that is inbuilt on the motherboard!

I have a funny problem in that one day my speakers wouldn't play music or any sounds all of a sudden!

So, I uninstalled the sound carddrivers and installed them all over again! That didn't solve the problem. I also found that in the Volume Control window, there is a button for advanced properties which displays facility for adjusting the bass & treble for the speakers apart frm providing a facility for muting the PC Speaker.

I found that the PC Speaker was muted and I unchecked that without any success!

I am able to listen to music using headphones. I have tried everything from installing the sound card drivers freshly to installing Windows 95 all over again!

Nothing seems to work. Can someone please tell me what to do?

Open your PC and check the audio cable from the CD drive to the mother board (for on-boaard sound card ) is connected properly. if that doesn't solve the problem change the audio cable. Again the problem persisits means your sound card or speakers is gone.

1. Check your BIOS configuration. Be sure your sound card is set correctly and enabled.
2. Check your Windows 95 sound settings, especially to the port and IRQ settings conflict.
3. Check your speakers, expecially to the volume and power.
4. If all above cannot do any effect, I haven't any good idea, too.
Good luck
