Locked

Steve Irwin

By onbliss ·
It was little sad to hear the news that Steve Irwin died after being speared in the chest by a Sting Ray's barbed tail.

I am not a regular watcher of his TV shows and neither a fan of his, but I have been impressed with his energy and enthusiasm.

His fans sure would miss him.

He almost seemed immortal :-(

Lock it?

And just how many of you out there were so-called "perfect" children that never got into ANY type of mischief (like unlocking the ubiquitous "locked" doors...)? Or were you simply less intelligent than a chimpanzee who can utilize tools to do what their fingers cannot? Get real here...

I have never seen a one month baby use tools

to open anything. Get some perspective here.

no, she didn't

by jdclyde In reply to i dunno....

Taking the child in there if anything is showing it that it CAN go in the pen. But I do it all the time with dad, there was just the one time I did it alone and.....

you give one month old babys way to much credit. your choice though.

My kids are now 14 so I have SOME experience with them and what the will and won't do.

Good point on the impression, Onbliss.

Like most others I felt he was a little over the top but he was funny and he was really informative. Sure his decision about feeding the croc while holding his child was pretty stupid but over all I thought he was pretty cool. He definitely got excited about what he was doing and seemed to really love what he was doing. I hate it for his family but sounds like he went out doing what he loved.

I was appalled that Steve Irwin held his baby...

by TechExec2 In reply to People do weird things... ...

I was appalled that Steve Irwin held his baby while feeding a huge crocodile (and it is like M. Jackson holding his baby over the rail). But, I didn't think of Steve as selfish per se. I think it was just the way he lived his life. He willingly handled 12 foot crocodiles with huge powerful jaws, and poisonous snakes and spiders so venomous that one bite would kill. That's just the way he approached his life. So, it is no surprise and completely consistent that he would carry his baby while feeding a croc. It's something I would never do because I view it differently than he did. I view it as a foolish needless risk to an important human life.

To me, it's no surprise that he died due to an animal attack. But, it is a very sad ending to an extraordinary life. I feel really bad for his wife and children.

The only good thing about his untimely death is that he lived his life on his own terms and without fear.

Without fear?

by jdclyde In reply to I was appalled that Steve ...

Only a fool goes through life with no fear. It is someone that is brave that doesn't let that fear stop them from accomplishing their goal.

Fear is a sign of intellegence as well. Part of the survival mechanism.

You beat me to it

by maecuff In reply to Without fear?

And that is correct. Being fearful of everything would be a bad thing. But fear is important. Without fear, we'd never survive. It's GOOD to be afraid of some things.

JD, Mae: I also said he took foolish needless risks...

by TechExec2 In reply to Without fear?

I also said he took foolish needless risks. The point about living "without fear" is that he was not living "by fear" that so many people do.

Obviously, my post was critical of his living foolishly.

You're barking up the wrong tree. Both of you.

You know, I almost put that at the end of my post! I just didn't want to add disrespect to my disagreement!

Woof! :-)
