Steve Irwin

By onbliss ·
It was little sad to hear the news that Steve Irwin died after being speared in the chest by a Sting Ray's barbed tail.

I am not a regular watcher of his TV shows and neither a fan of his, but I have been impressed with his energy and enthusiasm.

His fans sure would miss him.

He almost seemed immortal :-(

It is sad to see him gone. But I valued the way he chose to live. Not my choice but his wasn't my life to live.

I have felt for some time now that failure to live your passion is the greatest regret you can have. When you are living as fully as you want to, you are LIVING. I am more the skid into the end with a martini in one hand saying, "Whee, what a ride!" type.

It is terribly sad that his wife, Terri, will not have him going forward. But given that her background is zoology as well, I don't see her returning to the States. I figure her for carrying on the work that Australia Zoo has done so well over the past years, both in breeding and supporting animals.

I saw an interview with him several years ago in which he made the following prophetic statement, "I will likely die as a result of something to do with an animal. I just hope it isn't a croc. I can see you all now- 'Always knew a croc would get him!'"

Truly sorry to see such a wonderful advocate for animals pass on.

Edited for clarity

Ah, but I have an advantage

I know you know about the duckies!

Truthfully, there was a time in my life when I lived very carefully. Was willing to go a long distance for risk mitigation. There were many things that I was in fear of.

That changed for me when I thought that my life was going to be limited. I came to the realisation that I would rather live out loud than quietly in a corner.

And recently I proved to myself that there is truly nothing I cannot do if I am willing to put the hard work in. Something I thought I knew. Now I am certain.

Makes a major difference.

As an animal advocate

by Tig2 In reply to Wow ....

He didn't want any animal to get a bad name. He constantly stressed that if something goes wrong, it was HIS error, not the animal.

There aren't many that brought what he did to understanding and valuing animals and the importance of them. He will be missed.

I believe that Animal Planet and Discovery (Animal Planet's parent corp) have established a fund in his name to benefit the AU Zoo and provide Bindi and Bob educational funding. What do you want to bet that Bindi goes into zoology? I think she will. Possibly Bob too.

I was telling the same thing...

Tig Bindi thinks

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to As an animal advocate

That her Backyard AU Zoo is her private playground and her father was only a nuisance there to stop her doing what she wanted to do. He let her play with the Elephants and the like but not the bigger Crocks or Snakes which got up her nose no end.

I think that you have a pretty safe bet going there. :)
