    System Overheating

    Hi
I have just built a PC with the following spec.
    Mainboard : GA 8ST600 (SIS 645DX)
    Cel 1.7GHz
    256MB DDR
    30HDD
    GeForce4 MX440 64MB, VGA
    Win ME
    The problem is the temperature.
The CPU temperature is OK at 35-40C, but the system temperature goes up to 65-70C. with just surfing the net, if I play games I do not last long, before I have to switch the PC off. (easytune gives the temperature, I have checked the BIOS too)
I also have added a heat extractor fun, but no improvement.
    Anyideas please?
    Thanks
    Yiotie

Did you overclocked your processor ?

Check voltage (motherboard doc), replace processor heat extractor. Add good thermal joint between processor and heat extractor.

Do you have a good case for pulling the air out and relieving the temps that way? Multiple case fans? You could also try a card slot fan blowing on your video card. Good Luck

With the specs provided I’m going to guess inacequate case ventilation. Check to be sure your case fan is running properly and that your airflow isn’t being blocked up by your IDE cables and stuff like that.

If you’re leaving your case open this will cause the motherboard to overheat because you’ve disrupted the flow through vent and heat builds. If this is not the case then you need fans to suck the air in the front and push it out the back.
If none of this is working then you’ll need a powerful cooling fan, which are available at http://www.coolfans.com/

If your CPU fan is properly sized and running properly, you most likely need to add air intake fans.

You want to force at least 10% more air into the case then the exhaust fans blow out.

That way, you do not starve the fans, and cause stagnantair inside the case.

I also fully agree with the answer that said to check your CPU core voltage setting.
If the core voltage is too high, or the voltage regulator is not working properly, it can cause serious over-heating and damage to the CPU.

Since the CPU temp is OK, the core voltage is OK.
The high case temperature comes from all fans sucking on the case, and not enough air inflow.
Remove the four fan screws from the heat extractor and reverse the fan.
You want to blow air into the case, and cause a lot of air turbulance inside the case.
That will help get rid of the heat in the case through the power supply air flow. (Assumed to be outflow)
      Regards, Chris

Dress your internal cables, particularly the flat ribbon cables carefully. These can block proper air flow. If you have multiple fans make very sure they are moving the air in the same direction (synchronized). either both in or both out. If one is pulling in and the other is blowing out while they are on opposite sides of the case fine. If they are on the same side of the case then air is coming in and going right out without removing air deep in the case. If they are both blowing in from opposite sides of the case the air will “butt” up inside the case and not remove any heat, and so on and so on. Think about air flow and you may solve your problem. Aso consider the location of the box itself. Is ti flush up against a wall under the desk?

The fans will have an arrow on the side indicating air flow.
