Temporary User Account gone with all my files. Please Hlp.

By dave_man69 ·
Due to issues I dont quite understand Windows XP didnt letme sign in onto my normal account and so a new temp account was created. Being the genius I am I moved all the files frm my Admin-powered account (David) to the temporary account. When I logged in again the temporary account was gone along with all my files. I could sense the dark clouds gathering above me. Please help me, some of those files are of extreme importance. Ive been up all night trying to locate it but the only thing I seem to have been able to locate are unhealthy amounts of caffeine. Thanks to anyone that can help.

Once again, help.

Re: Temporary User Account gone. . .

by tsmithind In reply to Temporary User Account go ...

One of our technicians came in with a similar problem. . . when he signed onto his account, it opened a new TEMP account and he thought he lost all his programs and files. To fix this, all I did was restore to a former restore point and his former programs and desktop returned to it's normal state and he was back using his correct user setup.

Before doing what I did, I would try to resolve any problems with moved (missing) files first. I didn't move any files before doing a System Restore. The TEMP account setup still exists in Documents and Settings so this fix doesn't remove that, but it does fix it so Windows doesn't boot to that.

"Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted" error message when you try to log on to Windows XP.

When that happens you need to follow the instructions for this KB article.

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP

I have had this happen a few times but never attempted to copy any vital information to the temporary file or had the temporary profile dis-appear by itself.

Have you searched through the "A plethera of temp accounts"

Apparently not. :"(I dont even like to look at them)"

One of them may (should) contain your missing files.
