The Back Button in Internet Explorer

By joe.mitchell ·
How do I control the behaviour of the Back Button in Internet Explorer 4+? I need to be able to hardcode a URL at a certain time. This will enable me to force the application to go back to a certain page. This will not necessarily be the previous page.

Sure it can be done. Do it with a pausing redirect from the previous page. When you click on a link instead of going to your target page it will activate a redirect, CGI perl or java. After a pause it will open the target page. when you hit back it will just go back to the redirect which will put you back where you are. There are ways to see if you've been here before and if so send you to another page alltogether. A cookie might do it. Compaq does the most basic part on their Presario web shopping site. Once your in you can't get out. If you go to their home page follow the picture link to the buy and configure the Presario 5700T. Then hit the back button. "She no work". You can of course pick COMPAQ at the top to get back to their homepage.

Sorry, you will have to use favorites to hard core a particular page. The back and forward buttons are just that, back one page and forward one page. IE5 works a little different and takes you back to the core page you were in prior to your present core page, it has been some time since I used IE4 but I believe it did not do this.

Hope this helps,
Doug
