The Battle of Hillsbrad Continues

by Technologia In reply to The Chronicles of Technol ...

Elkwinkarma --- Undead Warlock, Guild Leader, Technologia
Report --- The Blacksmith

The Battle of Hillsbrad is starting to heat up. The human
inhabitants of that village are putting forth a more organized and
effective resistance. While that was to be expected, it does make
things more difficult for my Orc friend Dozark. He is not as far along
in his training as I, which limits some of our activity.

However, with superior tactical skill, we were able to circumvent the
exterior village defenses to complete our mission --- the extermination
of the town?s blacksmith, his apprentices, and the councilman
overseeing the production of weapons to be used against the Horde.
While we were there we decided to steal some of their supplies for our
own use.

It was a glorious victory for a two member team and we were rewarded
with some silver, a pat on the back, and a new quest. We were given the
prestigious assignment of assassinating the entire town council. I
think we are going to need some help --- perhaps Keres, Mrylin, Bonky
and the rest of the guild would like to participate. Personally, I?m
looking forward to it.

Hello Technologia. I hope everyone is enjoying their adventures in the World of Warcraft.

I'd like to create an image gallery of Technolgia guild members playing the game. So if you would be so kind as to take a few snap shots of interesting sites, including a self-portrait, and send them along to me via e-mail or private message - I'll put together a gallery or two.

Check out the initial Technologia Travel Log. I'd like to add to this gallery with screenshots from the places you go, so if you see someplace intersting snap a shot and send it to me - it could be fun.

http://techrepublic.com.com/2300-22-6075733.html">
http://techrepublic.com.com/2300-22-6075733.html

The Twink excuse

by Technologia In reply to The Chronicles of Technol ...

Bonker (Bonky's younger brother) asked me an interesting question last night: What is a Twink?

A Twink is a lower-level alt-character who is outfitted with high-level gear that was obviously given to him (her) by the player's main character.

In Everquest, where the term first became known to me, this was frowned upon becuase a) items were very hard to come by in Everquest, and b) high-level equipment gave low-level characters a certain advantage over the average character of the same level.

This problem has been mitigated in World of Warcraft by placing level restrictions on all equipment. In other words, you can't use equipment beyond your level.

Therefore, when certain players in WoW complain that the toon that just beat them down in a PVP encounter was only able to accomplish that victory because they were twinked --- I tend to ignore it as sour grapes. Participating in PVP means that you will lose at least some of the time. Some players are really good at PVP, some aren't. Personally, I am not very good at PVP, so losing is not a big deal to me.

If you have a different take on the subject please share with the Guild. My experience is limited in this regard - I find most PVP to be more about button-mashing then anything else.

The Twink excuse

by ddemoya In reply to The Twink excuse

What really sucks about this situation, is that players start to leave the battleground when they think the twinks are out of hand. So that leaves us outnumbered as well as out equipped and out enchanted. It is very gratifying to take down one of these alleged twinks, especially a dwarf or gnome!

The Twink excuse

by steve.marshall In reply to The Twink excuse

The difference in progression between a Twink and a normally developed character is what makes the biggest impact, changing a battle from a fair fight of two factions to one of total domination. The Twinked character (or even whole team in many respects) has been specifically enhanced to the maximum for his/her level. The entire development of that character is specifically for the battleground level of their choice.

In addition to this aforethought you will find most Twinks will also have enchants way above their station. I have seen many a lvl 19 rogue/warrior with "Crusader" and "Life Stealing" enchants, considering their cost there is little chance that a normally developed character would ever consider wasting 100g or more on an enchant that may last them a level or two (As they quickly out grow the equipment they currently use). Taking this into consideration it is possible to further enhance your Twink with other enchants normally reserved for the rich or the 60's +7/9 Stamina on Bracers, boots etc and other stat increasing buffs.

With all this in mind the end result is a character with the best equipment possible for their level (Specifically farmed instead of natural progression) enchants giving at least twice the normal stat buffs for their level and weapon enchants ordinarily reserved for the highest and richest of characters.

A full team of Twinks is going to totally overun any other non Twinked team (unless they all play like total idiots (which is always possible)) but to say that people that whine about Twinked characters is just sour grapes is a little unjust. However, whiners in general should be ignored imo, it's a game, get over it... Main thing to remember is unless you intend to Twink your character out too, you will quickly out level the problem character/s and be moving on to bigger and better things...

Failing that, if ya can't beat em, join em (like I have :) ) and I gotta say, having a pet Twink or two is great fun. Lets face it, BG's follow a certain pattern anyway in WSG... level 20-29 is generally owned by the shaman (Ghost wolf), level 30+ WSG is owned by the team with the most/best druids (Travel form)... 60 BG's by the team with the most epics... There is little real player skill required (unless your the druid) its more about the gear/classes present.
Level 10-19 BG's however are all about the team, more skill is required as there are little/no factors that govern any supremity over the battleground, so if your a PvP fan (like I am) it is natural to wish to camp this level ad infinitum purely for the pleasure of playing rather than escalating the giddy ranks of power... following this, you will naturally want to get every advantage you can in order to win more than you loose......

I must say that when you kill a twink, watch it die, and hear the death cry, it gives added pleasure

The Twink excuse

by tony.appel In reply to The Twink excuse

Our guild despises twinks for the sole reason that their main character at level 60 is so bad at PvP they had to make the twink just to accomodate their bruised egos.

Hence, we made an "alt" guild of twinks, but witha twist. Most twinks are of the warrior/rogue type, with twin lifestealing or crusader enchants on the most coveted of blue weapons. The rogues will have a full set of "defias" leather on, while the warriors will have the best mail you can AH, and all the +sta you can throw at it.

We countered them with a group of 5 twinks. 2 Priests, 2 Warlocks and 1 mage. By running our twinks through the appropriate instances, quests, and skilling them to 225 first aid and engineering we each have around 1600-1700 hps at level 19. A wand that does 29.3 dps, which is almost double what any weapon can do. We also feed ourselves heavy runecloth bandages, and engineering items such as explosive sheep, big iron bombs, etc.

Our main purpose in each and every WSG match is to find the rogue/warrior twinks and completely take them out of the game with fear, sheep and wand destruction. Imagine a rogue with dual crusaders on his daggers finding a priest, thinking easy HK, only to weaken him to 50%, see his shield, and have him first aid to full hps in 4seconds....and then get wanded to death.

Now imagine how their bruised egos feel.....

The Twink excuse

by nikolis17 In reply to The Twink excuse

Here's to correct a couple things you said above: I did not create a twink because I fail at upper level BG games. In fact, it got so easy that it was getting boring. Therefore, I decided to make a 10-19 twink and check the games out there. The horde on my server have quite a few 10-19 twinks, so I had to actually drop some cash on mine to compete. Also, Defias gear isn't the best to get for a rogue. =\ I leveled up my Engineering and First Aid, and Fishing, to Max. So I can use Heave Runecloth Bandages, have a lucky Fisher's hat, and bombs, etc... I also have two +15 agility chants on my weapons, which I alternate between Shadowfang + Cruel Barb, as well as my dagger Assassin's Blade. I also have Skeletal Club and Evocator's Blade. All with high level chants. All of my gear is chanted and the best you can have, etc.. etc.. There's no way you can have 1600 HP =\ Maxed out on + stamina chants and all, you would still only come to about 1300. My rogue has 1100 normally, and about 1300/1400 with buffs on. There's no way a priest against a rogue, both twinked out, would win. The shield would be brought down way too quick before the priest could do much dmg to the rogue. It would then only take like 2-3 hits to finish the priest off. The only thing negative about twinks is that the horde always get slaughtered, so they tend to never Q up for WSG... which makes the waits long and boring... but once we get games going, and get some decent players/twinks on the horde side, then it's fun. I'm having more fun with my 19 twink than with my 29 twink and my 60 playing.
