The IT Music

By Wiseguytr ·
Unlike field techs, we mostly spend our days and nights in front of screens and keyboards.

Whilst trying to boost our concentration and productivity, alot of us listen to different sorts of music to actually medidate deep into it, try to be more exact and careful.

Its believed that alot of people actually can concentrate more while listening to music while doing their IT work.

So what sort of music do you listen to while you are deep into it ?

It's a neccesity

I can't focus on writing code unless I have music going. It's always a mix, but usually loud. Rancid, The Clash, Pixies, The Cramps, Nirvana, Tom Petty, The Jam...sheesh, the list goes on and on. I usually only hear one or two songs before becoming absorbed in what I'm doing. But if I don't have that music to distract the distractable part of my brain, then the coding part can't do it's job.

depends

If I'm doing a mindless task, I'll listen to a playlist that will engage the brain. Evanescense, Seether, Saliva, Daughtry, etc..

However, if I'm trying to do documentation, I need something without a voice. At that time, I tend to go with Movie Soundtracks. I usually will pick a soundtrack to an "Epic" movie, like Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, etc..

If I'm trying to concentrate, and just need the music as a background, I'll go for something soft and instrumental. David Arkenstone, Nicholas Gunn, etc...
