The Rating Meter should go live this week

By Jay Garmon Contributor ·
As discussed in an earlier thread, we're deploying a new signature system for discussions posts which will include a rating meter. The meter output is based on an evolving algorithm of site participation.

Now, many of you were recruited to the TRI ranks because you "set the bar" for community participation, so some of you might rightly expect to score pretty highly on this first incarnation of the meter. You will, at least relative to the rest of the group.

However, while our heavy hitters will certainly be the highest scorers, but you won't peg the meter. That's because the meter algorithm accounts for participation in features that aren't built yet. You can't score points in these areas because the areas don't exist, so don't be suprised when the best of the best still have ample opportunity to improve.

As we phase in features during 2005, I'm sure you guys will be able to race up the charts as fast or faster than anyone...especially since you'll know about the features first. So now you know.

That, and you guys are usually far better at fielding questions from the community masses than we are, so it's best to keep you informed as much as we can.

Thanks for that list. I'm going to show it off at work today.

Listen to this - We offer Commercial web hosting. A new client has recently registered for our services and has given us the site name "Cracks-n-Hacks..." or something along those lines. He kept calling us complaining that he could not get anything to work. We kept saying "upload your index.html, we still can't see it". After about a week of calls back and forth, we checked out exactly what he was doing...

...He was using the file "" - Everytime that we said ".html", he thought that that was our short form for "hotmail". Cracks-n-Hacks indeed. LOL.

Wow, am I really on the "inside"? It's very interesting to read people's opinions and to find out what's happening before it changes. I feel priveleged to be in this company and I don't know what kind of hours you folks keep for your level of participation. I'll try to keep up!

I never work, never sleep, never eat, never do anything except read and post messages or read and answer questions.

That's Obvious

Wish I had more time to devote to TR. Some of us have to work or go hungry. Being self employed and your own boss has many rewards, but abundant free time isn't one of them.

Not being a touch typist is also a major hindrance.

Keep posting. I enjoy you, Oz_Media, and others in the discussions and The_Chas in Q&A. All of you write and express yourselves well.

Dammit Max!

by Oz_Media In reply to I live here

I went through half a thread with another 'peer' about how I don't live on TR and I actually have a life off-line.

I do have a life, I KNOW I have a life somewhere around here, now if I could only remember what I did with it ?!?"

Yeah, it's been rainy for days and days as expected here, how can you tell I haven't adjusted yet? Maybe a few days camping would help, that'd be cool! :)

outside life

by apotheon In reply to Dammit Max!

I went to a LUG meeting and a LUG group dinner at Bennigan's afterward last night, not getting home until about one in the morning. I'm going to a small party tomorrow night. Amazingly, I seem to have a life outside of t3h Intarw3b.

I just have amazing touch-typing skills and am an impressively prolific windbag.

Don't forget your LT and solar charger as well as the phone adapter who cares about the cost of staying on TR but you'll either need a satellite phone of be close to a repeater tower to be able to use it.
