    The Win2K Server exam: Your first list t

    i have a modem attached to a win 2k prof pc
    i have several pcs connecter to it in a small lan.
    i share internet connection . all pcs are running win 2k prof.
    connection is slow even i use the dlink hub
    i have a dlink server dp602 i used to use with win98 .Can i use to improve the speed of the network and how ? e mail me metrocyber@yahoo.com

      Everything is slow because you are using a dial up connection to the internet. It has nothing to do with the hub. If you share a dialup connection you will have this kind of performance. If you want good performance, get DSL or Cable Modem.

      slow spped is always a issue with networks but you have two big problems if you are looking for speed , ics using a modem is one of the problems. the other problem is using a hub on this area. the hub is a braodcast device all the traffic you generate is sent to every system at the same time. I would really consider using a network switch for this operation.
      switchs take the traffic you generate and send the packets straight to your ics workstation and the information is only sent back to you decreasing the traffic of the over all network , greatly.
      the other thing is to of course is to upgrade your route internet connection to either dsl or cable modem. I would go with the switch first.
