With that kind of mental acrobatics, white becomes black, up becomes down, good becomes bad...

Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter et al

They all exist to get eyeballs on screens, as does Olbermann, Maher, Scarborough et al.

There do exist some, on some of the Sunday morning political shows, who are true pundits. I don't always agree with George F Will for example, but I will give him that his ideas are well thought out. But far fewer people tune into to that kind of analysis than these "entertainers"

And quite effectively, I'd say.

The Razor

by JamesRL In reply to They also sell an agenda. ...

Unlike many, I don't think the media is setting agendas as much as following agenda's set by their target audience and key influencers.

A 60 minutes interview with Bill O'Reilly showed him to be much moderate and light hearted than he is on his show. Part of that is trying to capture the disgrunted right viewing audience, part of it is to follow their opinion leaders.

If there were a huge shift overnight, and suddenly there was no coverage of the "left", if Fox thought they could make more money, the would shift their coverage quickly.

I think that'd require that someone else shoehorned their present audience out from under them. I don't think any lifestyle brand will change their core audience without good reason. You can't please everybody.

The guy hired as a talking head to "stimulate conversation" sure did start this one up pretty well, huh? Give him a few grand as a bonus, he did his job.
