This won't happen again in our lifetime

By M_a_r_k ·
Tonight (actually Wednesday morning) at 2 minutes and 3 seconds after 1 AM....

01:02:03 04/05/06

Something this wild has happened less than 20 times in the history of the universe. And it won't happen again for exactly 100 years. I don't know about you, but I'm going to stay up until 1:03 AM just so say I can say I was part of this mind-blowinging confluence of numbers. So there you have it. Useless information that you can impress all your friends with.

Sorry Farradhi, it was another John not St John

by Deadly Ernest In reply to Except that the writer of ...

also known as John the Beloved. St John was a contemporary of Jesus Chirst as was a literate Jew. The John who wrote Revelations was well over 100 years later and a literate Christian who grew up as a Christian. The author of Revelations writes of being spoken to by a spirit and does not mention ever having spoken to Jesus at any point, further emphasising that it is not John the Beloved deciple of Jesus.

Everything I have read..

Points to the likely author being John the Apostile around 90 AD.

Here is a link to the catholic church intro to revelations. It states a posibility if not likelyhood. (It is the only one I could find quickly.)

However, that aside, Lets say your right and another John wrote revelations. Early christians were most likely Jewish as well. Early christians still followed Jewish traditions just seperated at believing Jesus was Christ.

Don't you hate the max message reaached bit

OK re authorship, from your own reference "Indeed, vocabulary, grammar, and style make it doubtful that the book could have been put into its present form by the same person(s) responsible for the fourth gospel. Nevertheless, there are definite linguistic and theological affinities between the two books."

and from

"1. In the Book of Revelation, the author identifies himself as John, whereas in the Gospel of John and the Johannine letters there is no such self-identification: "For the evangelist nowhere adds his name, nor yet proclaims himself, throughout either the Gospel or the Epistle....But he who wrote the Apocalypse at the very beginning puts himself forward." Moreover, the John who wrote the Book of Revelation did not identify himself as the one whom Jesus loved, the one who leaned back on Jesus' breast, or as an eyewitness and hearer of the Lord, as one would expect John the apostle to have done. (Dionysius speculated that the author could have been John Mark.)

2. The theological conceptions of the Gospel of John and the letters on the one hand and the Book of Revelation, on the other, are very different: "In other words, it is obvious that those who observe their character throughout will see at a glance that the Gospel and Letter have one and the same complexion. But the Apocalypse is utterly different from, and foreign to, these writings; it has no connection, no affinity, in any way with them; it scarcely, so to speak, has even a syllable in common with them." What he presumably means is that the theological content of the two differ significantly.

3. The vocabulary and style of the Gospel of John and the Johannine letters are different from those of the Book of Revelation"

Yes, the early Christians used many Jewsish traditions, but they did not use Hebrew in their scriptual texts so as to differentiate, thus the use of Hebrewic words, meanings or attributions should be highly suspect.

I wasn't around TR on March 4, 2005. I was recuperating in the hospital after getting mauled by a grizzly bear.

By the way, why does a fella from Tennessee have a Chicago Cubs avatar? You know, the Chicago Cubs have something in common with this whole discussion about annual events. Ever heard of the phrase "wait until next year"? :^0
