It's about Time! (Netgear)

by addicted2speed In reply to Trials and Tribulations o ...

So I got my mail yesterday, and mixed-in with the normal spam of post-cards and credit card offers, I finally received my rebate check from Netgear. I originally purchased a Netgear Wireless Router waaay back in March. It cost $45.00 and came with a manufacturer's rebate of $20.00, and that it would take 7-10 weeks to process my rebate.

I promptly sent out my rebate information following their instructions (perhaps a little too literally)... I mailed-in my UPC bar code and receipt, filled-out the rebate form in blue or black ink, using Verdana font, 10 pitch (12 pitch would have screwed the whole thing up and disqualified me for the rebate). They really don't want to pay you to buy their goods... but I was promised 20 bucks! I want it! $20.00 can get you 200 packets of Ramen!

Sometime in June, I receive an e-mail stating that my product did not qualify for the rebate, and that my rebate application was denied. NaturalIy, I called Netgear to try to pull a Jedi Mind Trick on someone over there to get my 20 bucks; or at least make someone in customer service tell their spouse about their traumatic experience this random dude calling in to demand his 20 bucks.

After navigating through a maze of options and automated menus, the customer service guy who picked up the phone already knew why I was calling. He immediately rectified the situation. I didn't even have to use my Jedi Powers. I guess this happens a lot. I was both satisfied and disappointed. He fixed my problem quickly, but I really wanted to use the Force! He then informed me that it would take another 7-10 weeks to receive my check in the mail. Again... satisfied and disappointed.

So back to yesterday, which is about 7-10 weeks after that magical phone call... I get a post card-type check (no envelope), that is only good for 30 days. On the post-card, it says that I must show ID to cash the check, meaning I can't cash it at an ATM, I have to stand in line and see a teller, during bank hours. Another attempt by Netgear to avoid paying me my 20 bucks!

I will get my 20 bucks, Netgear! You hear me? I WILL get my 200 Ramen packets!

I am sooooo pleased to find someone else out there who has gone through
rebate-****. Isn't there something we can do to stop this - if the item
cost so much, why have a rebate in the first place?
Note to Self...

Refine Focus on Future Financial Goals:

Before: Earn lots of money.

After: Earn more money than I can spend.

Unfortunately, for now, the spending capability always seems to outpace the earning capability.

I don't like to think, "I can't afford that"... I prefer to think, "What can I do to afford that".

The Bank...

by addicted2speed In reply to Trials and Tribulations o ...

I accomplished 2 non-work-related goals today when I went to the bank... a 2-for-1 you might say.

1. I cashed my rebate check from Netgear. Take that Netgear! Your anti-friendly Rebate procedures & checks did not stop me! Hah!

2. I reaffirmed my disdain for standing in line at the bank to complete a 30-second transaction with the Teller.

I dislike standing in line to begin with. But there was money at the end of the line! So confusing! Banks should really start having a different line for "quickie" transactions, such as deposits. Credit unions have often implemented this, grocery stores implemented this with their "10 Items or Less" line, why do banks not-care?

The Bank...

That's why you can deposit checks at the ATM machine.
And abuot the comment before, when I tried to post a comment on your blog, it made me sign up. But it's all good.
The Bank...

The back of the Check said, "Must present Photo ID to cash this check"... otherwise I would have cashed it at the ATM. But on the other hand, I wouldn't have had anything to write about in the past 2 posts.
