Type color in Outlook XP

By SUGARSNAP ·
I use Microsoft Outlook for my mail program. All is working fine except for one thing. When I change the type color (in either rich text or HTML) it is still black. Is there a setting somewhere that I can't find?

Thank you

I assume that you are referring to the displayed text colours in the windows for message headers and incoming messages.

This is NOT adjusted within OE, as it uses the default settings for your desktop. To change this
you right hand click anywhere on your desktop to open a menu box, slect 'properties' to open the 'display properties' window, select the tab 'appearance', then activate the button 'advanced', then click in the little desktop that is shown in the window to adjust its colours andthen select the down arrow beside the bottom block of colour to get a pallete of text colours, pick what you want and exit via the 'OK' and 'Apply' buttons.

I mean the font color. If I want to send an e-mail message where the type is blue, it is still black.

Ok, then try this to change fonts on outgoing.
Go to the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options', then select the 'Compose' tab and click the 'Font Settings' button (there is one for the 'mail' fonts and another for the 'newsgroups' fonts and they are adjusted seperately), this opens a window that you can change font size, colour, type etc.

When you have finished selecting your choices, click on the 'OK' button for the font window, then the 'Apply' Button and then the 'OK' button fort he compose window.

I don't have a compose tab under tools when I click options. I do have formatting tabs for e-mail, tasks, journal, etc., but nothing that enables me to change the color when typing e-mail.

Unless you are using a restricted account, you should have access to the relevant area.

Your may need to either upgrade or remove and reload your Outlook Express. I am currently using vs 6.00.2800.1123 and the process explained in my second answer works for this version and worked for the previous.

Since Win XP has been released there have been some patches for it and Outlook Express released, suggest you chech www.microsoft.com and get the latest OE patches etc. This may then allow you access to the 'Compose' tab.

If you remove and reload copy your 'Applications Data' folder within your profile into a backup directory as it has the settings, addressbook for OE hidden in its depths. I find it is best to backup the whole folder and then just copy back or import what I want before deleting it AFTER a successful re-install.
