Upgrade from ME to XP

By tikilb ·
On my home PC, I currently have Windows ME. I just received the update to XP. Will the upgrade cause any problems with anything I currently have installed such as Adobe Photoshop?

Upgrade from ME to XP

Depends on the programs that you are running. If you have an OEM computer (Sony, Dell, etc), most of them will have updates for software that they wrote. Most CD Burning programs won't work, virus software is probably not compatible, etc. Things to watch out for primarily are utility programs and drivers. There is no one cure all program that will tell you if everything is going to work. You shouldn't have a problem with photoshop, office 2k or higher, works 6.0 or higher. As for the utility programs, if it didn't come out after October of last year, it may work with updates off the manufacturer's website, but check the website before you install. Most drivers that were written for windows me don't work under xp. Either download a newer driver, use one that might be bundled with windows (most HP printers/scanners), or as a last resort try a windows 2000 driver. The best advice I can give though--- If it's not broke, don't fix it. If you aren't have problems with ME, don't upgrade. Good Luck.
