USB Memory Stick is Write Protected:
How to remove a write protection from your USB memory Stick if there is no Write protection ON or OFF button on stick then
1. Shutdown your computer or laptop
2. Insert USB Memory Stick into your laptop or Computer
3. Turn on laptop and then immediately start pressing (F key then Advanced Boot Options screen will come up
4. Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt
5. After loading files if your USB Memory Stick drive letter is (G) for example then write as
6. C:\windows\system32>G: and press enter
7. G>format G: and press enter
8. If ask you (Y/N) then press (Y) and press enter
9. Now a full format will start which remove write protection from USB Memory Stick.
Note:
Before removing USB from your computer, Always remove it safely by going into to my computer then right click on USB and click eject.

I got to line item #7 and crossed my fingers... even in dos it says the drive is write protected. This 16GB Toshiba is from Autodesk - they sent it in this media rather than a DVD. I feel it is close but don't know DOS command to un-write protect.

I don't know why I didn't decided to google autodesk media toshiba 16GB flash drive first but when my mind got to it, I found this link and tried the first method but this Edit 2 suggestion did the job for me:
What Revit Wants: Repurposing the Autodesk USB Media

Edit 2 - You may want to try Formatter first - Craig at iRevit has hosted the Formatter.zip and tested it (May 2012)

If you need to do this, go to the url and click on Formatter.zip link for download.

Thanks everyone.

16GB Markvision usb flashdisk is write protected and none of the slns wks

by bof202 In reply to USB Flash Drive is write ...

16GB Markvision usb flashdisk is write protected and none of the slns work.
Tries de regedit solution,
tried de format in safe mode using a cmd window,
tried everything

History, Was able to bkup most of the files on it but just could not erase damaged files and folders.
Ended up formating the stick. Went well for a while and then got the message "windows cannot complete formating cause device is write protected". Have not been able to write since then. Can read though just cannot write. Found out that the structure of the file system is RAW.
Chipset of the device is Alcormicro AU6998L, generic device with ID code 454A9AB2.

Write Protected Flash Recovery

by fardad.farokhi In reply to USB Flash Drive is write ...

Dear Freinds
If you are tired from all that you tested , try flash recovery through
the support from the website of the manufacturer.
I have a 8GB transend and I tested every thing which was recommended
but finally online flash recovery solved the problem.
I think something like firmware should be programmed in the flash by the manufacturer
which is not available to the public!!!
Good Luck
