He may be right on the dot - Shorting ports; I don't know why any of us didn't think of that one before.

Kudos for you for posting that one Martin!

Incompatible Hardware?

by TheChas In reply to USB ports strange problem ...

We have experienced a few different USB flash drives that do not work with Windows 7 and can even end up with a blue screen.

If the system the USB drive works on is running an older version of Windows, I would start to consider that it might be a compatibility issue between the OS, USB controller and the flash drive.

I would see if a different make or model flash drive works with your laptop.

We contacted the manufacture of one of our flash drives and they provided a work-around using compatibility mode when initializing the specific model of drive.

Toshiba C650 problems

by tazyx In reply to USB ports strange problem ...

Check this out:
They have problems with MB, implementation of chipset is POOR ....
"I got a bad news for you, C650 has a little problem. It suhtsdown the USB ports to prevent over current damage, but C650 do this too early, so if I were you, I take it to an ASP for motherboard replacement. The revisioned one works fine."
Go to change MB if it is still in warranty.
If not ... buy other brand (Acer, Asus, Lenovo, MSi).
Good luck.
