Using a Vista PC to share wireless internet

By alan_snowjr ·
If my Vista pc is wired to a broadband connection, would it be possible to add an internal wireless card to share or create a wireless access point for a laptop or video game console to share? I'm just looking to avoid the added wiring inherent in adding a wireless router. Thanks in advance!

Well, on paper....

Windows Internet Connection Sharing would work. (ICS)

But a cheap Wireless Access Point or router would work 400x better, be 100x easier to setup, and cost around $50.

With ICS, for example, as soon as the PC goes to sleep or locks up, your connected laptop or game console would lose connection. And I predict that it will take at least ten posts to this forum to get it all working properly.

Just buy a basic Netgear or Linksys router or access point and get on with it.

Avoiding the path less taken.........

Thanks for the advice. I guess there would have been no sense to taking the difficult path.
