Strange I have found only three others mentioning this eats up memory...and reappears after deleting...I am surprised there aren't others when i Google it..only a couple on techrepublic...thought there would be a bunch that jump up and say they had it also....none. The three that mentioned couldn't figure it did a bunch of stuff and said it was down from 16gig to 2meg...but that only means it just started over...anyone have an idea..I am not as technical as all of you...but this is really a will eventually each time take all of the rest of the memory on the machine..any ANSWERS??? Thanks

ASPUP.exe took 36.793 GB

by heygirl65 In reply to VIRUS ASPUP.exe

The date it entered my system was 2/27/07 and by the time I found it, had absorbed over 36GB! I would not have known it was there had I not received an alert that I had less than 2GB left on my personal computer at my home. I have a free-standing firewall and am very very careful, so I do not know how I got it. But it was not hidden. Interested it knowing about the "coming back" issue.

If you uninstall AOL safety and Security, you will be able to remove ASPUP.exe. I highly recommend that you don't put AOL back on. I have recent strong suspicions that all AOL is spyware and I am very leary of it. Suggest that you download Dirlot to see a graphic depiction of file sizes so you can find the file everywhere.

Good luck

New version of ASPUP.exe

by cecil.holland In reply to ASPUP.exe

I just finished working on a client's computer that had same symptoms as you previously discussed--hard drive space decreasing steadily. I found the file asprtpup.exe.1.7.ppu was 15.9GB. 15 days ago I deleted the Aspup.exe.1.7.ppu and followed all the steps as outlined by AOL. This seemed to work and for 8 days there was no noticable decrease in hard drive space. The new file is located in the same location as the original version---C:\documents and Settings\all users\Application Data\AOL\User Profiles\all users\Anti Spyware. If you delete all of the files in that directory, the hard drive space is recovered. The file returns shortly though and starts to grow again. Tomorrow I'm going through AOL's process again, but removing all AOL programs and starting the AOL installs from scratch. Maybe this will work.

Please help me get rid of asprtpup.exe.1.7.ppu

by ccast1612 In reply to New version of ASPUP.exe

My hard drive space is decreasing steadily. an Antispyware folder is taking up 22.4GB.I found the asprtpup.exe.1.7.ppu in this folder along with ASP224A.tmp and ASPC7.tmp which are all taking up the space. Could you tell me the procedure I need to follow to get rid of this? I currently use AOL Safety and Security and read that it might have something to do with this. Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
