Personal Recommendation

by SKDTech In reply to virus protection

I personally recommend Avast. It is free for home use, lightweight, and highly effective in my exxperience. Combine it with some anti-malware like Malwarebytes and/or SpybotS&amp and you should be fairly well set.

Practices not Software

by Lowlytech In reply to virus protection

There are several commercially available and Mcafee and Symantec are just a couple. Both have been good and both have somtimes missed. It is more important to keep system patches current and control which sites you visit. It is also very important to use the best level of security on your wireless. Security is a combination of all the above. Software is rarely ahead of virus creators.

Practices are good, but...

by SKDTech In reply to Practices not Software

Practices are good, but even the most careful internet user is likely to get infected at some point if they don't use protection. There is no 100% safe practice especially with virus programmers always on the lookout for new ways to get around existing security practices and programs.
