Wav file issues

Since you are having problems playing WAV files, I think we can rule out resource problems, such as lack of RAM or CPU time since a WAV file can play back well on even the worst 486 computer.

I have had this problem before with many generic ISA sound cards. You may need to go into your BIOS setup and change the timing of your ISA bus, add some wait states or lower the number of wait states, Look at your 8-bit and 16-bit "recovery time".

Look in your multimedia control panle and make sure windows is mapping wave output directly to your sound card. Some sound cards come with their own mixing device, try switching back to the windows default mixer. Also check for IRQ & DMA conflicts, if it is PCI try moving it to a new PCI slot

If it is a PnP PCI card, check to see if it uses any SB16 emulation and what IRQ/DMAs that uses, and if windows is mapping wave output to the regular driver or the SB16 emulation driver. Trying the latest drivers wouldn't hurt either. Hope this helps!
