Webshots - how much of a security risk

By louise ·
I am not sure if webshots poses any sort of security risk on a network, it is my feeling that it could be a vulnerability.
I will be removing webshots from the pc's in the network and know that there will be resistance and am curious if there is a valid reason for me to give them.

Running a web server

is always a risk.
usually when you run a web server internally you wont let any access rights to the outside.
If you use the web server to publish your web site on the net you will put it outside your firewall in what is known as an MDZ zone.
That way event if you get hacked at least your internal network is protected by your firewall

no security risk

If you have a properly-configured firewall, a client app like webshots is no problem to you. If you do not have a properly-configured firewall, users installing 'webshots' are the least of your security concerns.
