WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT AREAS OF IT

By natepickle ·
I am considering retraining for an IT career but dont want the choice to be all about the most money How can I find out about all the diff. IT fields so I can at leastg get an idea?

Also how does one tell if they like a particular field, trying each would not get you anywhere.

What is the best way to go about getting training?

Analyse this

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to my skills

I would like to work in IT

I know nothing about it.

I am at least 32, and have never once been curious enough about how any aspect on how IT works, to find out about it!

What is wrong with this picture ?

I started learning IT related stuff at 12, mainly from science fiction. You aren't going to be any good at it, and you aren't going enjoy that. You certainly aren't going to get paid a remotely decent salary for a technical job because you will be crap at it.

Try management.

And STOP shouting, it's really f'ing irritrating.

No IT does not fit

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to LIFE

not even a little bit.

Starting in it now in the current economic climate is daft. The only way you could compete with us, is on price, and most of get paid naff all.

Doing it in the US, given the crazes for off shoring and H1Bs, makes no sense at all.
Now you are competing with Raj in India, who gets paid in rupees, or Raj in the US, who's basically slave labour.

As for being in Iraq. Tough, you signed up, you go where they send you. Where was I, I was at home bouncing my grandchildren on my knee.

I can just see you in the job. I'm sorry Pickle, I don't like your analysis.

WAAAGHHH

In his six years as a member here

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to wasting time

Tony has helped all sorts of people. In your less than 24 hours as a member here, you've asked the same question 3 times, shown a distinct lack of comprehension, and screamed a lot.

Who is wasting whose time?

You're still screaming.

First don't

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to WHAT ARE THE PAY SCALES A ...

SHOUT.

What's the point in asking for pay scales?

Where Illinois, Mumbai, Beijing, Littlemahpton-on-Withe.

I mean come on.

Educational requirements? What formal? Depends on where you work. As a new starter you are going to need some. Which ones, CS for the tech stuff, MBA, for the touchy feely.

You might get away with none, You might get offered $12 an hour for a Masters.

Get off your arse man, I'm not google, I'm not googling for you.

Forget anything in IT, you haven't got what it takes to be good at any aspect of it.

Gimme Gimme Gimme, sheesh.

JUST LIKE IF YOU NEEDED TO KNOW ABOUT MY FIELD . GOOGLE DOESNT HELP. YOU MUST MEET PEOPLE AND ASK QUESTIONS

THANKS FOR THE INFO AND AS FAR AS MY ARSE .
