What Is The Best Point of Sale Software?

By XEntity ·
I am considering the use of Point of Sale Software for a project. I need general screens, support for touch screens, and support for terminal services. I would also like it integratable with MS SQL and acounting packages.

I am frustrated buy the shear number of these and the lack of general integration capability.

Does anyone have any guidance?

NCR has them including the server.
MS has a POS solution starting at $2999.00 USD with intergration with their Dynamics package.

I have worked with an old NCR system that used the DLC protocall. It was flightly and crashed from time to time. I had to take the system offline from the UNIX server in order to run reports and update the system or else it would crash. Every night I lost sleep trying to keep the system going.

old maybe

by CG IT In reply to thanks...

I've worked on plenty of NCR POS systems which includes the server and workstations, with large retailers. Never a problem.

Microsoft has a POS solution as does IBM but the hardware is the same as you would get with NCR. embedded workstation O/S, touch screens, and an IBM server.

Simple system

by XEntity In reply to old maybe

All I really need is a simple system that runs from terminal server and has touch screen monitors. The sales journals need to be 'mapped' into the Accounting software database for eventual posting to the ledger. I don't want to do a lot of coding modules to move data around.

You should look at Volante Systems, it's Java based, won't crash, and runs on Windows/Unix/Linux.

I have had great results from a system called AccuPOS (
It works directly with my accounting software and is extremely user friendly.
I refer this software to all my franchisee's
and I have not recieved any complaints
AccuPOS works with Quick Books and Peachtree
and a few others that I am sure I dont know of. Check them out and they have online demos that you can watch
