    Locked

    by candiceconn ·

How do I know which NIC to use for my laptop? Bought a refurbished DELL. Works great at home. Cannot connect anywhere else that offers wireless. DELL consultant says The card I have does not have the correct driver -probably becasue the card is an old model. Please help!

well if you don’t know what kind of nic u have in there, and possibly wrong driver, then all you can do is open up the laptop, somewhere on the bottom, and pull out the nic and it should tell you the name and model of the nic…. good luck finding the driver then

It’s easy to find out the model of NIC. Right click the My Network Places and select Properties.

Change the view to Details. The device name will tell you.

Right the NIC in question and click Properties for more information.

Click configure tab for the driver date and version.

      OR

Put the service tag in http://dell.com/support and it should tell you the orginal spec and lead you to a page for downloads.

BUT if it works at home, on wireless I assume, then it should work other place and it’s not a driver issue.
