Which school is better?

By Maw4Angels ·
I'm pretty much a newbie (so to speak) meaning I've never gone to school to get certified. I'm thinking of two schools to attend they are both boot camp schools. Unitek and CED solutions. Which of the two is the best one to attend? Basically which of the two gives you your money's worth.
I'm going for Net+, A+ and Security+

They'll get you a help desk job at BestBuy anyway

by Oz_Media In reply to Which school is better?

Actually any school will, such certs,m while seemignly important to some in some ocuntries, are the absolute basic foundations of IT. You're vest off finding a job doing that sort of entry level work, for a small firm without the certs and then taking that experience into school and a more useful certification.

Why pay to cut your teeth when yuo can be paid to do it instead?

It takes drive, digging through teh yellow pages and choosing small business where you think you could get a start, calling the BOSS and asking him/her to help you get started. The'll get you enough experience in house and will probably even sponsor you continuing school and gettign worthwhile certs too.

Plus, you forgot the benefits of going for the certs later

like jck pointed out...you can make valuable contacts, you will most likely learn the "industry standard" for doing things (even if you never really follow it).

And going to write your certs will be much easier when you "actually" know what the questions are asking.

I worked with a NOvell network before i even knew what a NOvell network was or could do. I learned to install and configure GroupWise before I knew what a POP server was. By teh time I finally got my employer to pay for training, My CNE and MCNE were a piece of cake. I couldn't pass the MCSE with what I know abotu networks, but I gained enough hands on knowledge or real world use and networking that I was able to sail through my Novell certs, and they usually don't come easy.

Most kids these days that become computer whizezes do so because they work on other poeple's computers all the time, they pick up the skillset and then get the certs.

CED is way to go

by cowboy_ken In reply to Which school is better?

Don't know if you have selected a school already but if not, then you should seriously consider CED. I am currently attending the MCSE 2003 Boot Camp and definitely getting my money's worth. I was concerned whether they would simply teach you to pass the test or actually teach you the information. After my first day, those concerns were put to rest very quickly. My instructor is well qualified and will make sure you have a full understanding of "how things work". I will definitely attend additional courses at CED since they have shown me their desire to put the student first.
