Why Are Win 98 Folders so slow to open

By j_esther ·
When double clicking on a Windows 98 folder, the system may take several seconds to open the folder.

MS says this is due to directory entries exceeding 32KB and most of my directory entries seem to be more than that if I'm looking at the right info (I click on a folder, then Properties, and read the size of the file folder as whatever) . I don't believe I'm looking at the right info but the folder is slow to open. MS suggests creating more folders which seems to defeat the purpose of havingfolders to start with.

Sometimes the response is very quick and at others, it just crawls. I've disabled Fast Find and the other resource hogs but the problem remains.

Check to see if Outlook is running. It's just a hunch but I have the same problem (see "it's a tough one" part one and 2)
right click on my computer and select properties. Then select performance and see the % of resources remain.

Hungry Cat's response seems to have fixed the problem. I would like to accept it.

Thanks.
