why is my WinXP Run - Open drop-down list always empty?

By JADavis9 ·
For some weird reason, and I have probably caused this, all of a sudden my Open drop-down list in Run is always empty after restarting my pc, even after I have run something like msconfig. I do have cCleaner, but I don't run it at startup and I don't have it checked on the Windows tab under Windows Explorer in the Run (in Start Menu)

After fiddling in the registry

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to You may be right...

upon exploration of my first Windows computer, I discovered much to my horror that I had fooked things right up. :^0
Exactly the point at which:
A) I determined to master the damned thing, and
B) I learned to backup the registry. A thing I do every other month or so now.

don't find ClearRecentDocsOnExit

by JADavis9 In reply to It could be set to automa ...

I only see (Default) and NoDriveTypeAutoRun on the right in that section. But I'll bet that I have been clearing it with regular use of cCleaner or infrequent use of Registry Clean Expert (I know ... many of you will say I should not run this type program - so I won't)

So, create the key as instructed.

Problem solved.

Don't use a cleaner setting which will remove the key.
