that you’d pick up on this one…
Incidentally, straw poll among the women in my building says she should have been fined more, had 3 months in jail, and her licence suspended for at least a year.
Breakfast news “reconstructed” this in a simulator yesterday, and the reporter drove off the “road” after only 10 seconds……

but you know what?
there are a lot of women that are that stupid, to drive and apply makeup. If you are going to wear makeup, put it on before leaving the house, so you don’t leave yourself open for women drivers comments. 😉
funny thing, a lot of delivery drivers, for auto parts and couriers are women, and they are actually better drivers than the men.
[ not putting makeup on while driving is a big help 😉 ]-

understand why women do this. First of all, it must take talent, because if I attempted to apply makeup while driving, I’d look..well, abstract at best.
And while we’re at it, it seems that every moronic a$$hole in a car who does something stupid in my path is on a freaking cell phone. I truly want to shove the phones up their collective a$$es.
And once, as I drove down the expressway, I passed a man reading a book while driving. Incredible.

and between us, we have seen:
a woman putting on nail varnish whilst driving
a man bottle feeding a baby in a car seat (in the passenger seat) whilst driving
numerous people talking on mobile phones whilst driving
numerous people attempting to text on mobile phones whilst driving
unbelievably – a guy trying to reverse a lorry whilst talking on a mobile
and, finally, a lorry driver attempting to map read on the outside lane of the motorway, doing 80mph, with the map totally obscuring his vision out of the windscreen……
And yes, Mae, I’d like to do that with their mobiles phones, too!!

The ones that drive me crazy are the women who use the little vanity mirror on the shade to do their mascara while driving. They have to take their eyes off the raod and their hands off the wheel.
But I have seen men do similarly stupid things. I saw a guy driving a sports car, steering with his knees while using two hands to comb his long hair in the mirror. Needless to say I put some distance between his car and mine.

I’ve applied lipstick using the passenger side mirror as a PASSENGER..never as a driver. I wouldn’t attempt mascara even as a passenger. Who in their right mind would point a sharp little stick at their EYE in a moving car?? One little bump or abrupt stop and you’re in an eye patch for the rest of your life..

I had to spend 7 months in bed with a broken leg because of the freaking cell phones.
The jeep driver backed in the middle of the road while talking on a fone and ran over my leg !!!
Apparantely I had to scream at the top of my lungs before he even realized that his jeep tyre was sitting on my leg.

applies here. ?60 fine, and 3 points on your licence….
so why the bloodyhell do they still insist on doing it??
The mad thing yesterday in the news was that the Government are thinking applying a “two strikes and you’re out” rule to speeding, i.e. get caught speeding twice, and your licence gets suspended.
Why can’t they do that with mobiles, too??
Grrrr!
(and yes, I have a mobile, with bluetooth headset, and it’s only used when my voicemail can’t be activated, and only used in emergencies. I don’t actually talk to the caller in point of fact – I tell them I’m driving and will call them back. In three years, it’s only happened once……(and it was Ma!!)

In reply to Same law….
Talking on a Cell phone doesn’t strain my brain, but putting up with people who want to make someone else’s activity illegal, and I’m boiling.
I can only say that stupid people make it bad for everyone. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have a radio in the car much less a cell phone that doesn’t activate until they rear end some other poor Joe.
My wife, daughter and I have been rear ended 7 times since 1995. We now drive full size vans and a Buick Roadmaster for protection from idiots. None of them were on Cell phones, but all of them were women. The 1994 rear ending was a gay male lawyer coming over a hill and being unable to stop…

So which do you figure contributed most to the accident–the fact that the other driver was gay or that he was a lawyer, or were you in his way?

The major problem was a line of traffic that was stopped waiting.

In reply to As a pilot I can multitask even on Final and landing.
The fellow hit me coming over the hill and started to lock up. The traffic was stopped waiting on someone making a left turn 100 yards over a steep hill…
What caused that accident was the speed at which the fellow came over the hill he was doing 55 in a 55. I was stopped at the end of a line of traffic in Dayton, OH. His proclivity had nothing to do with the accident. He just had all assets protected by trusts. His insurance was a 25000.00 bond. The repairs to the car and medical bills ended up totaling about 75,000. That didn’t include lost wages etc…

Its also illegal in Western Australia to drive and talk on the phone at the same time, unless you have hands free. Even then I’m skeptical, driving while talking on the phone as been likened to driving under the influence of alcahol, with a reading of 0.08, the legal limit for a full driver is 0.05 Blood Alchahol Content. But I’ve seen truck drivers talking on their phone, yes the cops nail people often, but still the message doesn’t seem to get through.

it was genetics? :O
As for Maes post about the guy reading the book, I spend two hours on the highway everyday, and I see people reading newspapers across their stearing wheels and everything.
I can’t WAIT for the cell phone restrictions to go into affect! I am thinking more and more about getting one of those scramblers!
I will look to see who is calling me, generally I don’t even answer until I get to where I am going. If I do, it is a quick “what do you want? call you in a bit”
While I HATE phones when I am out to eat, at least it doesn’t risk mine and everyone elses lives.
Makeup. what a stupid thing to kill someone over. she is lucky no one stepped out in front of her.

genetics. But that sword cuts both ways. Usually, but not always, the bonehead drivers who commit aggressive acts seem to be male (in my own personal experience), the boneheaded acts that seem to come from distraction have been more female. Although, I’ve seen both sexes in both scenarios.
If everyone drove like me, we’d be fine. 🙂

In reply to I think so.
I was new to my time and 4 of us flew into a city I’d never been to before. We rented a car and head to the hotel, having used Microsoft’s streets and maps to find our way. We ended up in the middle of a residential area with no commerical buildings within 5 blocks in any direction. We called the hotel for directtions traced our way back and found a commercial section, and drove along the strip until we spotted the hotel on the top of a hill.
MS had confused two similar street names, and it took us about 45 minutes to recover.

the number one group to cause an accident, teen males. showing off.
The number two group to cause an accident, middle aged females driving SUV’s. More likely to be distracted and have much more going on in their lives.
I was joking with the genetics as I know plenty of terrible male drivers and I have known GREAT female drivers. Let me state for the record, that my EX-wife was NOT one of these great drivers. Yes, we don’t have a gate for the fence because she backed into it TWICE, as well as backing into THREE PARKED cars in the 15 years we were together. (swore her next car would not have reverse)

too many accidents in my life, but one of them put my dad’s car in a lake. (just the front end). I was in my teens, late for work, on wet pavement covered in leaves. Long story short, I went through someone’s yard, down a hill and into a lake. At 6:00 AM on a Saturday. Daddy was not amused.
Oh, and once I knocked the sideview mirror off my car while backing out of the garage. But as far as I can remember, that was my only ‘reverse’ problem.

I saw a guy doing a crossword puzzle on a clipboard against his steering wheel. Both hands and his mind on something other than control of the vehicle.
Imagine the possibilities for disaster at interstate speeds with his inability to perceive problems in a timely manner and then his delayed response. This guy is a obituary entry looking for a victim.
I’m not a vengeful person, but if he rear ends somebody, I hope that his airbag crams both clipboard and pen down his idiotic throat!

A few rounds of FMJ from a .357 or .44 mag into the block, engine that is..
by sleepin’dawg · about 18 years, 1 month ago
In reply to why women are bad drivers
will soon bring most idiots to a shuddering halt.
According to actuarial statistics, the group between ages 25 – 60 per 1000 miles driven is the safest, with a slight lead for women between ages 25 to 32, after which men ease ahead. Studies indicate that men put more miles on their vehicles than women do on average.
Males between 16 to 25 have the worst accident ratings although over the past 15 years that has improved slightly. Surprisingly over the past 15 years the accident rates of females in the same age group has been slowly advancing. The next worst group for accidents is the 70 to 85 group with women slighhtly leading the way. Perhaps because in that age group there seem to be more women drivers than men driving, maybe because so many men predecease their wives.

Women drivers and cell phones

Actually I think they are awesome. They can reverse an SUV into a tight spot in a parking station while talking on the hand-held phone.
As for penalties, we have the same stupid rules in NSW, Australia. With double demerits during public holidays and long weekends, two instances of exceeding the speed limit by more than 15 kph, or driver and one passenger not wearing a seat belt and bingo — you have lost your license.
I would like to see a fine of, say, $1,000 for the first instance of using a cell phone while driving, and automatic loss of licence for a second offence.

In reply to Women drivers and cell phones
Driving home on the motorway, the local radio station was encouraging drivers to use hands free phones only. Just at that moment, I was driving past one of their cars, emblazoned with their logo on the side. The young lady driving it was indeed using a hands free phone. But… she was holding the handset and the steering wheel with one hand, while using the other to hold the earpiece in! Magic!
