Win 98 CONTENT ADVISOR

By karmelkids ·
My friend can't get on the web. How do I disable the "content advisor". And, how do I change the supervisor password if we have no clue what it is/was, my friends dad didn't write it down.
Need to turn this thing OFF, or reset the password so wecan be allowed to access all websites.
Thx, marilyn

Click on start/settings/folder options.
Click on the view tab and make sure 'show all files is selected'.
Close folder options.
Click on start/find/files or folders.
Find *.pol.
Delete the .pol files.
Click on start/run and type regedit.
Click ok.
Click on the plus sign for Hkey_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\policies.
Delete 'Ratings' that comes up under policies.

The reason for giving this info is because the content advisor can keep a person from gettingon all sites if it was enabled by other means and not by an individual. Some secure sites automatically enable the function when trying to connect to it.

Continued...

If the ratings.pol file is not deleted the error will come back eventually, even if you just delete the ratings key in the registry.
