Win XP reinstalls - cd?

By chaseshaw ·
A small business I am consulting for has approx. 40 computers from companies like dell and HP all with legit XP home cd OEM stickers with valid keys. problem is the guy they hired before me installed a cracked XP pro instead. I am willing to go buy a fresh install cd for XP home, but my question is, will that one CD be able to install onto all 40 computers (with their respective OEM-issued keys), or is the key associated with that cd and we need 40 whole new versions?

I suspect the one cd should work, but have never tried it before.

I can only speak from experience with Gateway and Dell PCs.

1. You cannot use a branded install CD on anything but that companies system. Dell to Dell, Gateway to Gateway.

2 You can install an OS such as WinXP Home off of a retail CD and use the key on the sticker on the side of the box.

But to really install the original OS correctly I would contact the company who made the PC's and get the OS recovery cd.

That way it will install with the correct OEM key and you will have the least amount of problems.
