Win98 wont shutdown

By stonewall_61 ·
I have a PC I just loaded Win98 on and everythng works fine except that when I shutdown the PC hangs up on the Win98 shutdown splash screen. It appears it has finished the actual shutdown process because when I reboot it doesnt go into the scandisk feature that alerts you of a an improper shutdown. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Verify all of your network settings (if you are on a LAN). I have seen this problem related to installing a network card with incorrect drivers.

Go to start menu>programs>accessories>system utilities>system configuration manager. Go to the advanced radio button and click. Select-disable fast shutdown. If this setting is enabled the disable it. This should solve your problem.

Microsoft has a patch for this very widespread shutdown problem in WIN98. I have used it many, many times with 100% success. If you would like me to email you the file, drop me an email and let me know.
