Windows 95 Product ID on the CD-ROM Disk

By BigJohnDoe ·
Hi:
I'm attempting to install an old copy of Windows 95A on a PC to test a software application. I'm the registered owner of this copy of Windows and I have the original CD but the Certificate of Authenticity is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know where (or if) the Product ID number can be found on the original CD? I would think the ID # would have to be on the disk to match the ID # that's entered during the installation process. I've looked through a number of files using a hex viewer but haven't had any luck. Thanks.

I don't know where you can find it on the CD, but I would use a product ID from another machine in your office. All that really matters is that you can produce proof of purchase for licenses for each machine that you have. You are welcome to use oneof mine if I can find it. howard_pincham@yahoo.com

it has to be in thr cover of your CD. if not found try as below
if it is an OEM version try this "34997-OEM-0028585-14586"
if a retail version try "419-1234567"

The Prod ID you're looking for is in the registry but unfortunately at this moment i just cant simply remember where to lead you.
However, IF you are doing re-fresh installing Win95 you could simply wipe out all info in the drive and use someone else's Prod ID. Or you can go to WareZ666.com to get one. The last option is really something i would'nt recommend but it works. It mat be somehow bad but it seems to be your only solution unless you feel like reading all the number listed in the registry.
Wish you all the luck.

Providing that you have the current version installed in any PC, otherwise this will not work!!

Open system.dat in DOS, ((Edit system.dat))
I can't remember what folder it resides in, but you can find it in dos by typing dir system.dat /s this wiull search the whole partition for the file and return the location.
Then do the edit thingy. After you open it, you'll notice text everywhere, Do a search for "Productkey" one word. If you dont see it, look for product only, it may be there more than once, but you will find YOUR origional Product Key to the right of it.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Start regedit via START/RUN, and look under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Mirrosoft/Windows/CurrentVersion.

You will find a line there: ProductID. This is what you need.
