Windows 95 sound system

By acktse ·
I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 95. However, the sound system doesn't seem to work. I need to know how to reinstall just the Windows 95 sound system (or do anything to get my sound system back running again). Can anybody help me?

Check the device manager, see if there?s anything sound related. If so, then you need the driver for your sound card. For onboard sound card: the file is on your motherboard CD or is listed in the mobo manual. Find that driver @ winfiles.com/driverguide.com.

If PCI: check the card, get the brand/model of the card. Go to the internet & get driver. Unpack the driver in a folder, then go to device manager (system properties), double click on the sound device, click on the driver tab, and then click on update driver. Point to the folder where driver was unpacked.
**Might have to be install it from scratch. Just go to "add new hardware wizard" in the control panel and follow the steps. Skip the hardware detection! When it asks for the location of the driver then just point it to the location where you unpacked the downloaded driver.
Also check for IRQ conflicts?that could cause problems! Should be IRQ 5 or any empty IRQ, DMA 3 OR 1.

Have you checked your speakers and all of your wires.(Just checking) Next I would look at you device manager to see if any devices are not running.(Possibly conflicts with other devices). In that case you should check the IRQ settings. Also you need to make sure that your sound devices are the same as you sound card. If not you need to remove those devices and reboot your PC. When it reboots it will ask you for the drivers for the sound card. Then you can install the correct drivers. Hope this helps.

This can be a process of trial and error, depending on whether your hardware has been detected by the OS or not... The steps to get things up and running under ALL possible scenarios will not fit in this space.

Email me directly and I'll step youthrough it 'til it works for the points...

check your soundcard inside the pc and make sure the cable is attached to the cd rom drive.. make sure u have a working driver loaded for the sound card... also check the bios to make sure your audio is enable.. (if there is an option for that)....check device manager and see what is listed under sound? is there a question mark? ... if u can use the drivers that came with your soundcard? how old is the computer we are talking about... if this doesnt work.. try moving your soundcard to a diff slot on the motherboard!!

good luck
