Windows 95 sound system

By acktse ·
I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 95. However, the sound system doesn't seem to work. I need to know how to reinstall just the Windows 95 sound system (or do anything to get my sound system back running again). Can anybody help me?

0. It may seem stupid, but double-check to be sure your speakers are connected right.

1. If you installed using the defaults, WIndows may have detected your sound card. Look in the Accessories for the Recorder and Volume Control. If there's a speaker shown in your SysTray something is stopping the sound card from from working. Try to open the Volume control. Enable all the input choices shown, and raise the sliders to mid range.

2. Check the Ssytem Control Panel/Device Manager to see itthere is a sound card shown under Sound, Video and Game controllers.

3. If there are any device conflicts shown, even if the sound card is PNP, it may not be able to be detected or work. You need to clear all shown conflicts. Next remove all phantom devices (all instances of duplicated devices) in one session without rebooting, until they are all gone, then shut down and reboot.

4. If your card is not PNP you will need to manually select the card from the Add New Hardware conttrol Panel. With Win95 you wi

If you try all the suggestions given for
this problem, there is one that is very
simple which has given me some problems in the past.(my sound mixer was turned off)
double click on the little speaker at the
right bottom of your screen.

The first thing you need to check, is to ensure that your sound card is being recognized by the OS. To do this, right click on the "My Computer" icon, and select "Properties". Select the "Device Manager" tab, and expand the "Sound, Video, and GameControllers" tree. If you see your sound card listed, then it may need to be enabled in the "Multimedia" properties, in the Control Panel. If you do not see your card, then you must install it, using the manufacturer-supplied drivers.

To enableyour card in Multimedia Properties, selct "Start \ Settings \ Control Panel". Click the "Multimedia" icon, and check to see what sound card is listed in the "preferred Device" dropdown menu, on the "Audio" tab. If you see your card, ensure the sound properties are not muted. Click the "Show speaker control icon" checkbox, to display the speaker properties.

If the above steps do not work, I suggest re-installing your sound card drivers. Ensure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.
