Windows 98 dosn't want to Login on start

By zeltser ·
I had problems with Win98 and reinstalled it above. Everithing became fine but now network login prompt doesn't appear during Windows loading. So it doesn't see network neighbourhood, but if I do Logoff session then Windows will ask me for Login name and password and and then find network.
P.S. All TCP IP config in Network Properties are correct.
Please Help

Windows 98 dosn't want to Login on start

by bpalmer In reply to Windows 98 dosn't want to ...

I have had this problem before on both win 95 and win 98 machines. uninsstalling and reinstalling network client will soemtimes, although usually not fix this problem. In most cases what I have had to do is unistall all software for the NIC, and in some cases even go into the registry and remove everything related to the NIC. Then restart windows, it should then try to reload the card, after which case your logon should appear when you first start windows again. I actually found this on 3coms website the first time it happened to me. Article said the problem is that the NIC gets added to the registry a second time. This confuses widows when it first starts so it ignores the NIC all together. Good luck. Sometimes these are easy to get workign agian and sometimes it takes several attempts.
