Windows expanding to the network drive

By jfradette ·
I have several PC's that when opening Explorer will expand the tree beginning at the F drive (first network drive). This has caused me much greif in the past because I'm expecting the tree to be expanded from the C drive and w/o looking closer I think see something on the C drive that shouldn't be there, only to delete it, only to soon find out that what I've actually done is to delete something from the network that shouldn't have been deleted. Needless to say, I do look closer now. I have tried the registry "FriendlyTree" route several ways, but nothing seems to work. The tree still wants to expand the F drive. Any answers out there?
Thanx in advance JF

Default Explorer Start Location

by Koerper In reply to Windows expanding to the ...

I don't think it's possible to change the default Explorer start location, but I've noticed that it starts at different locations depending on how I run it. If I rt-click on the Start button and select Explorer, it starts at my Start menu under Documents and Settings. If I press Win-E, then Explorer starts at My Computer. If I browse through Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer, then Explorer starts at My Documents.

I have also read that you can create a shortcut with this command line: "C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,C:\" to force Explorer to start at the root of C:.

JC, thx for the nice info. I'll remember what you've taught me here, but it doesn't solve or answer this perplexing problem, cuz I almost always r-c on the START button, no matter which campus I'm on or which PC I'm on. Explr still expands to the F drive on some of these PC's. So far the only way I've managed to get around this prob is to find a similar model/OS PC that doesn't have this prob and image it. Thanx again, Jeff
