Windows Freezes

By icurmine ·
I have a 400Mhz PII with 96 RAM. Just recently my PC has started to temporarily freeze up. It usually only last for about 15 seconds before it "releases" and is useable again, but it is happening more and more lately. My browser is IE 5.0, but that is not the only app to freeze. When it does happen everything goes, what ever sound maybe playing at the time skips and my mouse sticks where it's at.

I see this a lot. You can do the scandisk and defrag, but one other thing you can do is reinstall IE5. IE modifies some windows files. Also remove any temp files in c:\windows\temp. Good Luck.

i would first check the startup and determine what you need to run in there

there many things load twice in the startup and remove double and i dont use power management and i dont let load in the startup

video cards have programs that run and they dont need to run

find fast is another memory hog

temp files can be quite big and clean them out and the history and temp internet file and cookies all need to be cleaned out
