Windows XP Pro VPN Setup Failed

By masicina ·
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue. I am trying to set up a VPN connection on my computer which has Windows XP Pro so that I can remote access another xp pro computer. When I start up the new connection wizard and select next for set up an advanced connection then next for accept incoming connection the hour glass freezes and the wizard does not proceed any further. When i look into my task manager it shows the new connection wizard is not responding after a minute of trying to run. From here I have to end task to terminate the connection setup.

I have disabled my Norton Internet Security thinking maybe the firewall was blocking the wizard from creating a new connection, but the problem still occurs. Thanks.

Cisco has an excellent .pdf download

You did identify the VPN software, but Cisco is probably the strongest brand name. Cisco posts free .pdf documentation which includes setup instructions:

Hopefully this will help. As you know, VPN is not the same as Remote Desktop. With VPN, you actually operate the remote workstation through a secure tunneled connection. The price paid for the security is some noticible slowing of data transfer.

Please post back if your problem persists.
