Windows XP SP2 now skips the welcome screen.

By craighunt ·
After installing service pack 2, when I load Windows, it bypasses the welcome screen and loads right in to my account even though I have the Guest account enabled and have Windows instructed to use the welcome screen.
I want vistors to my house to log in to the guest account but when they start the computer, it just logs in as me (administrative account). Anybody know how to fix this?

The fix...

Hello, I'm here because it happened to me, it drove me nuts too for a couple of days. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NTCurrent\Version\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList. Change the ASPNET DWORD value to 1. This will unhide it from the Control Panel ?User Accounts? and, this will also change the "On resume, Password protect to?, ?On resume, display Welcome screen in the Control Panel "Display" Screen saver Dialog. Then go to Start \ run \ type - "control userpasswords2" enter or click OK. Ensure the check is in the box for "Users must enter a user name and password for this computer?. Reboot the machine. It should open to the Welcome Screen as well as default to the Welcome Screen after the timeout for your screen saver with only your account displayed even if you have not passworded your account.

Windows XP SP2 Welcome Screen Bypass

by blueskaj In reply to Windows XP SP2 now skips ...

I recently had some video converter issues and one suggestion was to reinstall Net Framework. Microsoft gives the details here
I uninstalled my version and redownloaded and installed Net framework and the Welcome Screen returned upon rebooting the pc.
hope this helps.
