WINS Nightmare!!!

By treid ·
I am getting ready to impliment WINS im my network. I currently have a lab set up with 5 computers to test WINS. Each computer is in it's own subnet. I have each station set to point to the WINS server. I can get to any computer in the network by using the unc name in the RUN box and I can use IP also. What isn't working is Network Neighborhood, also if I get it to working is there away to restrict what shows up. I only want the computers in each department to see each other in network neighborhood not the every computer on the network. Please Help.

I am assuming you are using DHCP? If you are not then you can statically input what you want in eac machine. What else is in your network? Need a little more Info.

Use regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters

To hide the machine, create a new dword value of "Hidden", change the value from 0 to 1, and restart your system. If hidden is already there, change the value from 0 to 1 and reboot. You can still connect to the computer, but network neighborhood won't display it.
