Wireless and DHCP

By TrueSpeak ·
First, thanks for taking the time to read this post. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I have Windows XP Pro laptop with a built in wireless adaptor card. I have a Comcast high speed Internet which i connected to a Microsoft MN-720 router. Everything was working fine until now. When i try to connect to the wireless network Windows seems kind of stuck at the "Acquiring network address" stage. After a while it shows limited or no connectivity. When i connect using ethernet to the same wireless router everything is fine.
This phenomenon used to happen earlier too but a restart of the computer fixed the issue (not that i knew what the issue was) but now restarting the computer has no effect. For testing purpose i even tried connecting to other networks (neighbors network) which are open, the same thing happens limited or no connectivity due to failure in getting the ip address.

I will really appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this.

This is a tech. problem, in search of a solution.

It properly belongs in "Technical Q&A," not in "Discussions."

Please re-post there.

Thank you.

the problem of Questions being mis-posted as Discussions?

Do you understand the difference?

If so, is it the case that you chose to ignore them, despite the fact that they here constitute community standards?

Or, do you simply like to make irrelevant posts?

Show me where the wireless section of Q & A is.
I requested a section for it under "New Ideas/Feedback". Did you not read that section?

Since a lot of things can be addressed from a wireless question, are you going to police all the areas until someone finds an area that YOU deem it fits in? You seem to be the only one telling people it's the wrong area.

It's funny that you rank over other people in this topic that have been helping and you've done nothing but criticize.

Been there; done that.

Just becuase you can't make the distinction does not require that I repeat myself.

Not Win. XP2

I have the same problem with whichever WAP I use. However all was working successfully until a few weeks ago - with SP2 installed. It's as if the computers are unable to access an IP address now, then reverting to Auto Private Address (limited connectivity). The problem is solved with a router but I'd like to understand why all was working well for months and then the problem occured.
