Word 2003 Doc...Columns and Page Numbering Impossible?

By ckhurley90 ·
Is it completely impossible to page number a document in Word that has many columned sections? I know the columns create section breaks, but I need them. I have created a 150 page cookbook for my child's school and each recipe has a columned section for the ingredients. There may be two or three columnned sections per page. This has made me nuts for days. I've tried some things I've read online to no avail. The book needs to go to print in two weeks. I'd appreciate any advice.

It might be easiest to solve this problem at the printing press.

Assuming you'll be taking your file to a place like Kinko's, they may be able to easily add page-numbering with more capable software than MS Word.

It is possible to do this.
Despite the automatic section breaks, you can insert page numbers that will work.
1) Open the footer on the first page
2) Place your cursor in the footer.
3) Click on the page number icon in the page toolbar. (Do not use the Insert Page Number function in the menu.)
4) Scroll or down arrow to the next page that does not have a number.
5) Repeat from 2) above, but select the "Continue from last section" button in the dialog box.
6) Continue until all pages are numbered.

This takes time and patience, but works.

A little late, but I hope this helps someone.
