XP/vista Lan/workgroup access.

By popeberry ·
So we have a Network with fixed Ips, and in our lil front office we decided we wanted to add a wireless router so we could move around with some of the laptops.
WE dont really have on sight IT people, we basicaly have a company that sets stuff up and certain people have responsibilites.
So The lady that Can go on the network and allow an IP got one for us.
We plugged the wireless router in, and went into the setting and changed to default IP to the one we were assigned, did all the DNS/subnet blah blah stuff as required.
How we hooked it up was we had an ethernet cord frunning from one comptuer to the wall, ew put a ethernet switch on that and ran one to router and one to a compupter already networked/on workgroup, it worked fine.
After setting were in Router we could see it and log on to it via wifi.
So thats all golden.
Now how do We get These laptops on the workgroup?
Do we need to have allowed IP's for each one, or is that fine>.. and do we now just go in anc change the computers name, and tell it to join the workgroup we already have up..will it be able to see it? I"m not finding what I think I need to be looking at, how do we find and access and share with the workgroup from this point on?
Sorry for long and confusing question :)

your question: how to get laptops on the workgroup....

answer is: join them to the workgroup

your question: do you need to allow IPs?

answer is: don't know. allow IPs where?

your question: how to find shares.

answer is: Shares are listed in My Network Places [XP]when you "explore each computer in the workgroup. In Vista, you share in Control Panel, Network and sharing, view computer and network.

Your answer to how to get something on to the workgroup was "join the workgroup"
Could you explain how?
Xp's all around.
The network is supposedly set up where each node/computer/whatever has to have an allowed IP to access anything.
So We had to get one for the Wireless router I was wondering if we then needed one for the INdividual comptuers using the wireless router.
How does one join a workgroup one can not see.
