XP won't start up past light blue screen

By dougiec29 ·
Windows XP gets to the light blue screen with the XP logo and then stops. It doesn't do any better booting in safe mode or with the last known good configuration. Any ideas besides a restore disk (I think I'll try that next if I can find it)?

Can be fixed

If you for some strange reason have Xp running on FAT32 it is quite easy to change it.

1.
Run a chkdsk/f and a defrag just to iron out any snags in the filesystem
2.
Open a DOS window and type

convert C: /FS:NTFS

It will protest that the disk is locked, but after reboot it will change your filesystem from FAT32 to NTFS. This is a one-way process.

Probably this PC is beyond that being possible.
